Restoring Efficiency: Carwash Renovation at Hass Oil Nanyuki
Client: Hass Oil Kenya
Location: Nanyuki, Kenya
Service Provider: Universal Innovations & Industrial Limited
Project Duration: Concurrent with Forecourt Works
Focus: Carwash Area Reconstruction
Project Background
As part of a larger three-phase overhaul of the Hass Oil Petrol Station in Nanyuki, Universal Innovations & Industrial Limited (UIIL) was tasked with revamping a severely deteriorated carwash facility on-site. The existing carwash presented several safety and operational concerns:
Damaged floor tiles
A leaking vehicle service pit
Faded or peeling paintwork
Worn and uneven access at the entrance
UIIL delivered a complete reconstruction of the facility — from the ground up — ensuring it aligned with Kenya’s construction and environmental regulations for carwash operations.
Carwash Redevelopment Scope
The carwash project required expertise in both civil works and mechanical integrity. UIIL handled the following:
1. Demolition and Site Preparation
Removed old tiles, damaged plaster, and deteriorated materials
Drained and inspected the leaking service pit
Carried out strategic backfilling and compaction to stabilize the foundation
All demolition and prep work was conducted under OSHA Kenya’s Construction Safety Code with proper containment and debris management on-site.
2. Cabro Installation at Carwash Entrance
To ensure smooth vehicle access and improve surface durability:
Excavated and levelled the entrance area
Installed and compacted a hardcore sub-base and sharp sand layer
Laid heavy-duty cabro blocks in an interlocking pattern for stability
The new surface resolved common issues like mud formation, pooling water, and tire rutting—ensuring cleaner, safer access for all users.

3. Service Pit Repairs
The leaking pit was carefully restored:
Applied waterproofing slurry to seal cracks and weak joints
Retiled the pit interior with chemical-resistant, non-slip tiles
Regraded the floor to ensure proper drainage into designated holding tanks
UIIL ensured full compliance with NEMA Kenya’s Carwash Wastewater Disposal Guidelines, which emphasize proper containment and environmentally responsible discharge of greywater.
4. Professional Tiling and Floor Finishing
Installed durable, anti-slip ceramic tiles suitable for wet environments
Applied waterproof grout and heavy-duty adhesives for longevity
Sloped the flooring precisely to channel water to safe drainage points
All flooring works were carried out following Kenya’s national construction standards, as regulated by the National Construction Authority (NCA).
5. Painting and Aesthetic Improvements
Applied high-performance, waterproof wall and surface coatings
Repainted entry points, bays, and work zones for visibility and branding
Used moisture-resistant paint to extend lifespan under high humidity
The transformation elevated both the function and professional appearance of the facility.
Environmental and Regulatory Compliance
UIIL delivered a project that aligned with:
- NEMA Kenya guidelines for wastewater containment and greywater disposal
- NCA building regulations for surface finishes and drainage
- OSHA Kenya site safety standards during construction
Key features included:
- Sealed service pit
- Controlled discharge zones
- Water-flow tested gradients to avoid surface runoff
Conclusion
The reconstructed carwash is now:
Structurally secure and compliant with environmental safety laws
Optimized for drainage, cleanliness, and ease of maintenance
Visually aligned with the professionalism of the Hass Oil brand
This work was completed concurrently with the forecourt reconstruction—highlighting UIIL’s capacity to manage multiple high-standard tasks simultaneously.
